About the Role
We are looking for a Tech Artist to support our Development & Design team with day-to-day asset preparation and visual implementation tasks for our VR product. As the product and feature set continue to grow, we want to strengthen our art pipeline and ensure consistent, reliable support for upcoming releases. Adding a Tech Artist will help streamline our workflow and maintain a stable level of visual quality across the product.
Responsibilities
Scene Art & Environment
- Key areas of work include: Unity scene setup, UI assembly, template creation, shader/VFX development, 3D asset modeling and polishing, visual improvements, optimization, and debugging.
- Scene-related tasks include: Scene layout and composition; Lighting setup and polish; Environment, materials, FX, and performance optimization.
- Prepare, adjust, and finalize Unity scenes.
UI Art & Interaction
- UI-related tasks include: Building layouts using prefabs and components; Interaction logic and state handling; Animation and transitions for UI; UI performance optimization
- Prepare, assemble, and finalize UI layouts using prefabs and internal components.
- Set up and maintain UI templates and prefab libraries.
- Improve quality of scene templates (lighting, materials, environment FX).
- Improve quality of UI templates (typography, interaction logic, color systems, animation polish).
Shaders, Rendering & VFX
- Optimize UI prefabs and ensure smooth integration into the project.
- Prepare icons, thumbnails, and other visual assets for release.
- Implement or refine features affecting rendering quality (e.g., shadow support, lighting adjustments).
- Create, write, and refine custom shaders.
- Prepare, optimize, and polish 3D assets and models.
- 3D Environments – prepare, optimize, and polish ready-made environment models (UVs, light baking, materials, performance), or model such environments from scratch when needed.
- Enhance visual elements, including controllers, effects, and animations.
- Improve branded visual elements (e.g., logo) and scene-level design, such as the lobby environment.
Qualifications
- Expert-level proficiency in Unity, including asset implementation, animations, shaders, and VFX.
- Experience with 3D modeling and texturing tools such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max, as well as other modeling, sculpting, and texturing tools (e.g., ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer).
- Strong skills in shader creation, lighting workflows, light baking, and post-processing effects.
- Skills in animating objects, UI elements, and scene-level animations (timing, interpolation, transitions, and motion polish).
- Basic understanding of C# programming.
- Experience creating procedural geometry using C# or geometry shaders, or geometry nodes.
- Solid understanding of Unity’s Render Pipeline and Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
- Knowledge of rendering processes and graphics optimization techniques.
- Experience with profiling tools such as Unity Profiler, RenderDoc, XR Performance Tooling.
- Experience developing for virtual reality and familiarity with VR best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug rendering issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with leads, designers, and artists to maintain visual consistency.
