Senior Tech Lead PHP

For our US partner, FieldFlo company, we are seeking a Senior Tech Lead PHP from the Balkan region. This remote full time position, offered under a B2B contractor agreement, is part of the established Serbian development hub.

Role Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Tech Lead to guide our distributed engineering team in building scalable SaaS solutions. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with deep expertise in PHP (CodeIgniter), cloud deployment, and modern web technologies, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will define technical architecture, mentor developers, and ensure high-quality delivery across the full development lifecycle. Collaboration with product managers, DevOps engineers, and leadership will be key to driving innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and oversee technical architecture for web applications using PHP (CodeIgniter) and modern frameworks.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
• Manage database performance and scalability (MySQL/Postgres, NoSQL).
• Oversee AWS deployments and optimize cloud operations.
• Collaborate with DevOps on containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ensure code quality through reviews, automated testing, and adherence to standards.
• Participate in feature planning and design discussions, providing technical guidance.
• Drive innovation by leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies

Must-Have Qualifications

• 7+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role.
• Strong expertise in PHP and CodeIgniter, with full-stack experience.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Proven experience with AWS deployment and cloud operations.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
• Ability to work independently and lead remote, international teams.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with additional frameworks (Node.js, React.js, Python, Laravel).
• Knowledge of asynchronous architectures and observability tools (New Relic, Datadog).
• Exposure to SaaS environments and Agile development principles.
• Familiarity with automated testing and QA practices.
