Senior Java Data Engineer

About the Role 

We are looking for an experienced engineer who takes full ownership of complex technical challenges, from data architecture design through to production. We operate data intensive systems at scale and are strengthening our team with professionals who set a high bar for quality and rigour. Candidates who combine deep Java expertise with data engineering proficiency and the ability to independently navigate complex problems are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance Java-based backend services and data pipelines
• Take architectural ownership of complex features from initial design through to production deployment
• Develop and optimise distributed data processing workflows using Apache Spark, Kafka, and related frameworks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions aligned with business requirements
• Conduct code reviews and set engineering standards that serve as a reference for the team
• Independently analyse and resolve complex, ambiguous technical problems at both architectural and organisational levels
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements and cloud-native delivery practices
• Produce clear technical documentation including architecture decision records and deployment guides
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support knowledge sharing across the team

Data Engineering Depth 

Demonstrated command of large-scale data environments — from distributed processing frameworks to pipeline design and optimisation. The candidate understands data flow, consistency, and performance at enterprise scale. 

Key technologies: Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, Airflow, Postgre SQL 
 
Independent Problem Solver 

The ability to independently analyse and resolve complex, ambiguous technical problems — both at the architectural level and within organisational contexts — while communicating findings and decisions with clarity and precision. 

Key technologies: Root Cause Analysis, Technical Leadership, Cross-team collaboration 

Requirements

• Expert-level Spring Boot / Spring ecosystem
• Hands-on Apache Spark or equivalent distributed processing framework
• Relational & NoSQL databases at scale (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Event-driven architecture — Kafka, RabbitMQ or equivalent
• Cloud-native delivery: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS / GCP / Azure
• Strong testing discipline — unit, integration, contract testing
• Track record of independent ownership on complex features
