Role: RAN optimisation Engineer
- As a RAN optimization Engineer you will provide Technical consultancy and Support to commercially deployed 3G/4G/5G/Open RAN networks.
- You will troubleshoot technical issues in the Radio Access Network (RAN) and design workarounds and solutions to resolve these issues but with an E2E perspective/knowledge always present.
- You will be heavily involved in roll-out and optimisation of standard as well as Open RAN 5G NSA/SA solution.
- You will develop strategies and provide consultation to customers on improving network performance.
- You will also be exposed to the SON department and help develop and implement our proprietary solutions.
- In some of our deployment roles, you will travel internationally and work in different cultural environments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting our customers with mobile network monitoring, optimisation, and improvement projects (ranging from legacy to 5G/Open RAN networks)
- Improve Radio Access Network performance through Radio parameters tuning and features implementation
- Participation in mobile operator network deployment and launch projects
- Support of new feature introduction/testing in mobile operator networks
- Investigation and resolution of network performance degradation
- Troubleshoot and resolution of configuration faults
- Troubleshoot and localization of software faults in mobile operator networks
- Clarification of expected system behaviour towards mobile operators
- Improve both voice and data customer experience (Quality of Experience – QoE)
- Investigation and testing of different scenarios in our Lab (Open RAN, Virtualization etc.)
- Sharing knowledge with less experienced engineers
Required Education/Experience
To succeed, you will have an engaging and inquisitive personality and a natural technical proficiency for all things Telecom and IT related. You will know that you are the type of person we are looking for if you have:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline (Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology etc.)
- At least 5 years of experience in RAN Optimisation/Planning, with a deep and proven experience in some of the following nodes:Deep understanding of main radio algorithms, features and parameters in 2G, 3G, 4G technology and network architecture in RAN
- 2 or more of the following equipment vendors: Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE, Nokia and Open RAN (e.g., Mavenir, Parallel wireless)
- Proven experience in RAN KPI (Key Performance Indicator) optimisation with use of operator network management tools
- Considerable experience in deploying and troubleshooting with RAN vendor equipment including O&M, KPI analysis, detailed call tracing and troubleshooting
- Experience working with operators, and an appreciation of what the issues are for network operators, combined with a demonstrated willingness to drive issues to resolution
- Proven demonstrable examples of where you have driven complex coordination and technical issues to conclusion, exhibiting a ‘get up and go’ attitude to problem resolution
- E2E experience related with VoLTE call flow analysis (IMS and/or TCP/IP protocol analysis) is a plus
- Early exposure to Massive MIMO, 5G deployments or Open RAN is a plus
- Familiar with SON environment and algorithm development is a plus
- Automation skills, interest in statistics and data science are a plus
- Scripting Expertise is a plus (for example Python)
- A solid team player with the ability to lead others and yet work independently
- Ability to work analytically and coordinate investigations. A problem solver.
