Backend Developer (API)

About the Role

We're looking for an Backend Developer with a strong focus on API development to build and maintain the integrations that connect our platform to clients and third-party vendors. You'll own the full lifecycle of API work: designing and documenting endpoints, onboarding new partners, supporting client integrations, and evaluating incoming vendors for new feature capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs consumed by external clients and internal services
• Own client-facing API integrations end-to-end: scoping, implementation, testing, and go-live support
• Evaluate and onboard new third-party vendors, assessing their APIs for fit, reliability, and integration complexity
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for integration partners and API consumers
• Write and maintain clear API documentation, integration guides, and onboarding materials
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across client and vendor connections
• Collaborate with product and DevOps to support new API feature development from requirements through deployment
• Configure and maintain Nginx for routing, reverse proxying, and rate limiting across integration surfaces
• Use Redis for caching and session management to support performant, high-availability API responses
• Manage MySQL and NoSQL data models that support integration workflows and event tracking

Requirements

• 5-8 years of backend or integration engineering experience with a strong focus on APIs
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, authentication patterns (OAuth, API keys, JWT), and versioning
• Experience supporting external clients or partners through API integrations
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate third-party vendor APIs and manage the full vendor onboarding process
• Proficiency in Node.js and/or Perl (Mojolicious) for building and consuming APIs
• Working knowledge of MySQL, NoSQL databases, Redis, and Nginx in an API context
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfortable owning client relationships alongside engineering responsibilities
• Proficient with Git and standard CI/CD workflows
• Experience with Linux server environments and cloud platform deployments

Ability to understand and convey complex ideas to complex customers

Fluent/High English proficiency is required for this role
